Photo: Testing Nikon 50mm 1.8 lens with and without the Nikon 4T closeup filter

Nikon 50mm 1.8 lens is great, but unfortunately not flawless. While shooting texture I've found that it looses sharpness at the corners significantly enough to drive the pictures useless. So I've decided to test it's sharpness with different aperture settings.

It's hard to be precise, but the higher you set your aperture, the sharper image you get.

For 50mm lens with no filter on it I got an acceptable sharpness in the center with 2.5. Corners are starting to get better at 3.2, at 5.0 they are almost ok, but if you want a perfect picture go above 13.

Same lens with a Nikon 4T closeup filter greatly decreased the sharpness in one of the corners. While central part is still alright on reasonably wide aperture, I had to go up to 16 for not too demanding textures only at 22 the sharpness at the corners was acceptable.
